Archibald Chilton, Age 21
Private, 10751, 5th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.
Archibald was one of four sons of Robert and Harriet Chilton of 10 Little Eyton, Malinslee. He had been born at Horsehay but the family had moved to Malinslee at a later date. A further address of 87, King Street has also been seen. Archibald enlisted at the beginning of the war during the month of August 1914, before enlisting he had already completed 7 years work at the Sinclair works at Ketley, and was also a bell ringer at St. Leonard's Church Malinslee
Archibald died of wounds on the 1st
August 1915 after arriving in France
on 22/5/15 and is buried in the
Lijssenthoek military cemetery where
during the war there was a large
casualty clearing station. His grave ref;
is I.D.6 - a scroll to Archibald is
shown in the middle pages of this
book.

Archibald was the first love of Minnie Garbett who was the eldest daughter of the Garbett family; Minnie & George were also the brother and sister of John Richard Garbett who won the MM & bar before being killed in action in April 1918 whilst serving with the MGC
